New Racer Tips

Most cars have a Horseshoe or Side weights along
with a Seat weight (along with front and rear weights).
This helps avoid too much weight over the axles.

Make sure your weights are tightened down well in
your car to avoid vibration and movement.

You must allow 1/8" space between adjoining weights.

You are responsible for providing the 5/16" bolts,
nuts and extra 5/16" x 1-1/4" washers to hold the
weights in.  These do not come with the Derby Kit.
You can buy them at any hardware store.  The
floorboard is 1-1/4" thick, so bolt lengths of 2" are a
good start.  Depending on the weights you install the
bolts may need to be cut or ground down.

We now offer 5/16" Elevator Weight Bolts with Nuts
and Washers.  Our 2-1/4" bolts are the correct length
for our 1/2" Horseshoe and Seat Weights.  You won't
have to grind anything.
Things to consider

Should weight be in the center of the car,
over the axles, or spread out?

Should weights be lower and wide or
taller and kept closer to the centerline of
the car?

How much total weight will you need?

Did you remember to get some
adjustable weight?

Do you buy one thicker plate or the
same weight in two thinner pieces?  This
may give you more flexibility to move
weights around at different tracks.
On the other hand more plates can be an
added source for energy stealing
vibration.
